Lara Bowen

Lara uses brush and palette knife to build layers of colour and texture, creating nostalgic pictures from the fruits and flowers in her garden.

Lara documents the plants, flowers and fruit she has both established and inherited in her garden. She has also recently turned her attention to formal gardens, allotments and landscapes passed through on road trips.

There is a sense of nostalgia in Lara's work. She has a collection of vases and jugs and in cutting flowers and placing them in these vessels there begins a limited time in which their relationship can be recorded and preserved; albeit in impression as opposed to photographically. Similarly, passing through a landscape provides a fleeting encounter and Lara records her own memory of a place; pared down elements experienced through senses - colour, light, temperature, mood - as opposed to exact details.
