About Clare Cutts
Bristol based Clare Cutts works in two diverse mediums - screen prints and woodcutts. She is a master of unusual printing techniques to create her work.
Her beautiful screen prints are are inspired by the words of others: sayings, poems and songs, from the past and the present, the famous and the everyday. They often feature nature - mountains, trees and plants - and also very thoughtful female figures. The prints are built up with layers of overprinting, blind embossing and often incorporating metallic and pearlised inks.
Clare has been commissioned by Ralph Lauren and the John Lewis Partnership and her two ‘Misty Mountain’ screen prints were selected for the RWA Open Exhibition.
Clare's woodcuts came about as a basis for her large tree prints - she winds the big woodcuts through a huge rollered press, then the woodcuts then get pushed into wet paper and hence imprint themselves onto the paper.
