Mark works from sketches made in situ then with acrylic paint and graphite pencil to produce his highly individualistic paintings
Leicestershire born painter Mark Richardson spent his childhood holidays in Cromer, in a caravan close to the Lighthouse and the much-loved Happy Valley. Now, after a successful career in design and advertising, Mark and his wife – the internationally acclaimed “crotchedermist” Shauna Richardson, have achieved their great ambition to move to North Norfolk so they can focus on their creative careers in the area of the UK they love the most.
Mark’s paintings of the North Norfolk coast are striking and graphic, with an immediacy to them that brings a fresh perspective to these well-loved views.
Starting with pencil sketches, Mark then works with acrylic and graphite crayon to create the final painting. Mark has a sure eye for the colours that are found in these sometime rather austere landscapes and the ethereal, shifting light that artists have long held to be particular to this corner of the United Kingdom.
Mark has been venturing into new areas and has developed a series of still life paintings around fruit and vegetables. Originally working in acrylic, he has moved on to use oil paint, enjoying the more saturated colours the oil delivers
